Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Derrion Thomas is an accomplished entrepreneur, developer, and philanthropist dedicated to building stronger communities through innovation, opportunity, and service.
Derrion’s journey began in athletics. At five years old, severe asthma led him to swimming, a sport that not only strengthened his lungs but launched a 15-year competitive career culminating in qualifying for Olympic trials. After an injury ended that pursuit, he transitioned to football, earning a preferred walk-on position at the University of Missouri, where he studied Psychology and Business and graduated in 2013.
Following college, Derrion discovered his passion for fitness and personal development. In 2014, he founded 58 Fitness, a small-group personal training studio that served over 3,000 clients, helping people transform their lives through health and mindset. After five years of success, he transitioned into construction and development, applying the same principles of discipline and growth to the built environment.
Today, Derrion leads Thomas 58 Construction & Development, a Kansas City–based firm specializing in residential and commercial renovation, redevelopment, and light new construction. His work centers on revitalizing underutilized properties, advancing affordable housing, and driving inclusive neighborhood renewal across the metropolitan area.
Beyond business, Derrion is deeply involved in community initiatives. He serves on and supports several local charities, including the Derrick Thomas Third and Long Foundation, Special Olympics, and the Bacchus Foundation. In 2025, he began developing a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on fentanyl education and treatment, with plans to launch a national awareness program and establish a treatment center in Warsaw, Missouri.
Motivated by the belief that leadership is service, Derrion’s mission is simple: to leave the world better than he found it—through every project, every partnership, and every person he helps uplift.
