Katie Frey

Hello! My name is Katie Frey, and I’m the proud mom of three wonderful children (ages 24, 23, and 17) and have been happily married to my husband, Chris, for 29 years. Originally from Kansas City, I graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Journalism and a master’s in Social Work. Together with Chris, I founded APEX Environmental Consulting 25 years ago, where I currently serve as the President. In my spare time, you’ll likely find me reading, playing pickleball, or enjoying a game of tennis. Summers at Stockton Lake with family and friends are a highlight of the year, and above all, I’m known for my love of laughter! I may not be the best dancer after 23 lessons, but I will be the most entertaining. Faith has always been a cornerstone of my life. I was raised Catholic, and every Sunday, my family—my parents, four sisters, my husband, and all 11 grandchildren—gathered for 9:00 AM mass at Nativity followed by a family brunch. It was my dad’s way of keeping us all connected, and those moments will always be close to my heart. However, life took an unexpected turn for our family on October 18, 2020, when my 27-year-old niece, Madison, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). It was a shock, and we found ourselves asking what we could do beyond offering our prayers. A GoFundMe page was created, and through this, we quickly saw the incredible impact Madison had on so many lives. She has touched countless hearts in her short 27 years. Madison received treatment at MD Anderson and, thanks to her unwavering strength and the power of prayer, has been in remission since April 1, 2022. The reason for the back story on Madison is why I am so passionate to dance for Bags of Fun. Madison chose Bags of Fun as her senior project in high school, and seeing the profound difference this organization makes in the lives of children and their families inspired me to get involved. Their work brings joy and hope to children facing serious health challenges, and I’m honored to be a part of this effort.
